Memorial Day...

Here in the USA,
we are celebrating Memorial Day...
remembering the people who died
while serving in the armed forces...

and
In honor to all those men and women
serving with dedication their country

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier,  in Arlington National cemetery, In Virginia,  USA
photo taken by Karin Markert

When I saw this photograph, I was strike by the beauty of it, I did a small research on the author since the photo that I saw initially was posted on Facebook and did not have any watermarks...
after digging a little bit,  I found HER....

Her name is Karin Markert, a photographer who is married to a soldier who belongs to the unit of the Old Guard (3rd US infantry Regiment).

She took this photo back in September 2012, it went viral in Facebook and Twitter but with no proper rights given to the original author...

Please read her article at her blog on copyrights: "Copyright infringement of photos?" ...
very interesting lesson!

and visit her amazing site of photography as well: KLMARKERT Photography

I want as well to dedicate this post to the people ALIVE serving  right now...
and let's be thankful for them,
who are willing to sacrifice everything for the well being of their countrymen!

Happy Memorial Day

No paper craft for today :)

Thank You for your Service: Veterans Day

Hello Dear Stamper and Crafty Friends:

THANK YOU
so much for all your comforting and so sweet words from yesterday's post...
They all sure did make me feel much better and draw a smile on my face!
I am truly grateful from the bottom of my heart...
healing slowly day by day!

Today here in the USA, we are celebrating and honoring all the men and women who have served in the US Armed Forces... it is known as Veterans Day!
This card was published in the Spanish blog: "A crear se Dijo!" for Memory Box for My DT assignments.

Even though this day is to thank ALL Veterans,
I take the opportunity as well, to express all my gratitude through this post and card to all the Military people serving right NOW for  all what you do, the sacrifices that you made to keep us safe and serve this country!

Note: not to confuse with "Armistice day", celebrating the end of World War I and honoring the men who served on that war.
Veterans day is for ALL military members, in the USA,  and it coincides with "Armistice Day / and Remembrance day", marking the end of World War I on Nov 11th, and celebrated in the rest of the world.
But, Did you know  that "Remembrance day" is known also as "Poppy day" and celebrated in  all the Commonwealth nations?
Now I know, why I have seeing the Queen of England on this day wearing a small red Poppy on her lapel...have you noticed?
But why the Poppy? somebody knows? I would love to know the origin of this tradition...

as for the card:
I started by sponging with inks on top of these 2 stencils to re-create the American flag

I then made the bouquet with several stems die cut in white, the leaves from behind were sprayed with "shimmer mist" to give them that shine

added some silver brads and a metal ball chain...

A small "Thank You"

Happy Independence Day to...

Hello My dear Stamper Friends:

On the 15 and 16 of September,
several North and Central American countries
are celebrating their Independence day from Spain ...all these Spanish Speaking countries are having their National Holiday !

So "Happy Independence Day" to...
Costa Rica
El Salvador
Guatemala
Nicaragua
Honduras and
México...

I made this card using the beautiful "black nose sugar skull" stamp from Lost Coast Designs.
And I colored it with the colors of the Mexican Flag.
I used this iconic Mexican sugar skull image, used mainly on The Day of the Dead, in November...
but I liked it so much and it is so "Mexican", that I decided to use it for today's and tomorrow's festivities in honor of this National day.

BTW: Skulls are not symbol of sorrow/fear in Mexico, they are a symbol of festivity and party!

NOTE: In Mexico, on the 15th of September,  tonight, at midnight  is celebrated what it is called "The Cry of independence/ El grito de Independencia", where the President every year on this date stands on the balcony of the national palace at the main plaza in Mexico city, at the "ZOCALO" and rings the same bell that Hidalgo, a catholic priest,  had rung in 1810 to call everybody to rise up in arms against the Spaniards...and that is how the war of independence started in Mexico ...
Then He shouts several "viva's" ("long live the heroes of the nation"; "Long live the republic" etc) and below at the "Zocalo" Hundreds of thousands of people watching, reply with "VIVA" each time...this impressive ceremony is transmitted in all the main Spanish speaking chains of T.V. national and international...so if you have a moment and can find it watch it!
It is very emotional and very patriotic!

I colored the Skull with "Copic" markers and added several dies from "My favorite Things". The words are from "Memory Box" ;  "Feliz Día= Happy Day" ...

I added some stickles to the teeth ...
in person it shines a lot!
This card can be used for the day of the dead, for Halloween or just as a fun card to make and send to friends!

Ok my friends, I hope you enjoyed reading this post...I always remember this day because,  Mexico is also a little bit my country and I spend so many 15th of September at the Zocalo with my family celebrating and shouting "Viva Mexico" and celebrating this holiday, that is it rooted in my memory! ...tomorrow on the 16th there are military parades and nobody works!!! I remembered just sleeping late, and watching the parade on TV...

So I am joining in the celebration
of my Central American friends
in their National Holiday!

Thanks for the visit!
