A gift box: Lavinia meets DecoArt

Hello My dear blogger friends:

To make this gift box I used the line of Mix Media fluid acrylic paints from "DecoArt", various stencils and a stamp from "Lavinia"

Cover first the entire "Papier Maché" box with "Gesso" from DecoArt, this primes the surface and the paints will stick and flow better.

Proceed to apply the layers of color...
The line of Mix Media acrylic paints are more fluid and blend easier than regular acrylic paints which are more opaque and thick...

I added on top some layers of "Media Interference Fluid acrylics" in blue and green:
These layers will add shine depending where the light comes from. When applied over a dark color, the effect is more opalescent. When applied over light colors you can see a sheer opalescent  (see photo)

Apply some geometric shapes with stencils (from "Memory Box") using a stencil brush and getting off the excess paint with a paper towel. (always apply the paint in circular motions).

Stamped the image (from "Lavinia" stamps) with Archival ink...I fill some holes with black paint
The wings were made with acetate and glitter

Make the flower arrangement in card stock (I used the poppies from "Heart Felt Creations" stamps and dies)

and Voilà a pretty box...

NOTE: I made this box for the "Memory Box Program" from the painting/decorative painting  chapter that I belong "Tolling Belles of Santa Clara"

{This "artist program"is an all-volunteer effort to provide boxes for families who suffered early pregnancy loss, a stillbirth or lose a child of less than six months.  The Memory Box is given to the parents of the child, so they do not leave the hospital without any acknowledgment of the child's life.  The boxes are filled by hospital staff with mementos of the child, i.e. photograph, blanket, hat, footprints, lock of hair, etc.

The program is  all volunteer and all donated funds are used for reimbursing the shipping costs of the artists supplying the finished boxes.  Please contribute at http://memoryboxes.org/contribute.html
