Tip Of The Week...Magnetic "C" Plate for your "Cuttlebug"!

Hello Dear Stamper Friends:
To answer the question from my last post...
What do you prefer, long or short posts?...
I think I will try to have a mix of short and long post...thanks for your feedback!

Today's tip, I LOVE it...I created a Magnetic "C" plate for my cuttlebug, to avoid the dies from moving when die cutting...GENIAL!

Before I was taping my die to the plate..now I do not need to do that...and when I do not want to use the magnetic side , I just switch to the other side...

I simply cut a piece of this adhesive magnetic sheet "ProMag" sold at Michael's for $10.00 and if you get a 50% coupon it's much better...I use it for almost everything...for storing my dies, for organizing them on my desk...etc...

REMEMBER...
the perfect sandwich for a perfect intricate die cut...is this...

A + metal adapter + "new" magnetic C + die (ridges up) +
wax paper + Cardstock + B

I use my Die Pick to release the paper from the die...and with the wax paper it comes out like butter...
see the wax paper all curled up on the side

Hope you like it...thanks bye...

  1. That flower outline looks lovely in blue. I am afraid I still prefer tape when I am being mean with my paper as that seems to be the thing that moves! I do like the magnetic sheet I have stuck to the side of my cupboard to stop dies going "walkies" before I put them away properly!

  2. I love your blue flower. I wasn't aware CB made a magnetic plate. Thanks for the heads up. I'll hop over to Michael's this week.

  3. That's a good tip too Janine! Clever!
I have ProMag to use for storing my dies...will try it with my Big Shot and see it works better than removable tape...Thanks for the tip.

  8. Can you use this method with the Big Shot for intricate die cuts? I would use the magnetic board and my platform with the two cutting pads with the wax paper.

    1. Yes you can! although they sell already a "magnetized" platform for the Big Shot. "Stampin 'Up!" sells it...

    2. Hi Bibiana, I will like to see if the magnetic sheet is strong enough to hold the dies through the cutting plate so I can put the dies on top of the paper to see where I am cutting. Which is my biggest problem.

  9. Brilliant! I will use this idea on my Grand Calibur. Thanks for the great tip.

  13. I hope I'm not duplicating this, I 'lost' my first effort!

Can anyone help me figure out the C plate, please, and a couple of other things? Nestabilities seem thinner than folders, yet appear to need a thinner cutting plate. I didn't get one with my Cuttlebug, but have found a compatible plate. Do I need a C plate, and does anyone know if the compatible ones are any good? I tried a thin acrylic sheet, but it didn't work, my husband thought it was too hard and it needed to be soft enough for the blades to cut into it. And what is a metal adapter? I'm beginning to wish I had stuck with my good old Bigshot and not been tempted by Anna Griffin's Cuttlebug (although it's lovely)! Thanks.

    1. There is plenty of info on the net about adapting the cuttle bug for differant dies, from differant manufacturers, just google it. Plenty on Youtube too if you need visuals, thats how I got here.
Thank you soooo much for the tip and post for make your own magnetic plate for the bug.

    2. You can purchase a "C" plate from hobby lobby or goggle it and purchase one. I noticed my spellbinders die instruction said to use a B and C plate instead of two B's when using a cuttlebug and that solved my cutting problems. No more using extra pieces of card stock or thin pieces of cardboard. Hope this helps.

  14. I just found your beautiful blog. Thank you for a wonderful tip. I just found out some info for my cuttlebug. I ordered from SU a sizzix die and what I got was this very thick die. I did not think I could use it in my cuttlebug but I played around with it and prayed I did not break anything and finally found that if I leave of the A plate I can use one of the thick dies. Hooray! Thanks again for the magnet tip.

  15. are you adhering the magnetic adhesive to the cuttlebug "c" plate?

  16. Please tell me what metal adapter you suggest?
I understand the concept of,your tip about putting the magnet on the C plate; thank you for that.
I only have the Cuttlebug V2.

Again, thank you for your help.

  17. On the C platform using the ProMag paper how did you attach it to the plate? I want to use the right stuff so I don't ruin my C plate.

  18. Doesn't attaching the metallic sheet to the "C" plate make it too thick to use for regular applications? You said you just turned it over, but I would think the extra thickness would cause a problem. Also what is the metal adaptor for?

    ReplyDelete

    1. No; on the contrary this "extra" layer(which is very thin) makes the cut better.
the metal adapter is a metal sheet that you buy separate to use on top all your layers for "intricate" designs, this helps to make better cuts...
I rarely use it though! I rather place extra sheets of paper anddo not forget to add the wax...this helps to release better the design from the die.
      hope it helps

  20. Bibiana, thank you for this ingenious idea for making the C plate a magnetic plate. My friend and I will use this simple and cost effective idea on our C plates. Brilliant!!!

  21. I was wondering if I could put the same magnetic paper on the A plate? Or does it have to be on the C? Also what is a metal adapter I am new to this whole card making thing and just received a Cuttlebug for Christmas.

    ReplyDelete

    1. no need to put it on the A plate. The purpose of the magnetic on the C plate is to hold in place the dies.
      your "sandwich" must be A +magnetic C + die + paper + B.
the metal adapter is sold separately for extra thickness...But I have not used it so much lately...so you can Skip this one if you want. wax paper is better to 're;lease " the dies from the paper in a better way.
let me know if you have more questions

    2. It holds your die so you will not have to tape it down.
